Key Trends

Welcome

A decade of struggle

With this 10th edition of the report, we introduce a set of indicators designed to answer a simple question: is society moving in the right direction? Every major sector of the economy is represented here, sometimes by a single metric. We cite steel emissions, for example, as a proxy for industry at large. Each panel shows a decade-long view, or as close to a decade as we can get with available data, and each one shows whether things are moving in the right direction or wrong direction. We commit to updating this billboard each year as a way for readers to keep track of the overall trends.
